Our Vision
Mobilize is a South African communications non-profit that simplifies complex issues for the communities facing them. Neither leaders nor experts, we look to enable, educate, & amplify people to become their own change-makers.
The purpose of Mobilize is to play a role in creating positive change through facilitating and supporting campaigns and projects, in which there is equal power, prosperity, health and equity for all people, with a focused on those currently under-privileged.
Our Principles
Whatever the issue, we strive to ensure that:
We are Excellent
We are Intentional
We are Collaborative
Our Journey
Our journey began as most great ideas do: crisis calls, and people who care answer – aided with a bit of luck.
The crisis? COVID-19, and its own pandemic of information uncertainty against struggling public messaging. The call? To make the complex simple and real. The people? Entirely volunteers.
The result? CovidComms. What started as an emergency effort quickly became a trusted source of clear & accessible information, tailored to people’s everyday realities. Through over 170 info tools, a translations guide for the 11 languages, and 650 workshops rolled out via our own Mobilize App, we helped communities understand and act on complex issues around covid awareness, vaccine acceptance, and public health justice.
The luck? We stayed. As the pandemic eased, we expanded our focus to other urgent social issues like anti-corruption, democracy, energy, and the climate crisis – always staying rooted in making complex ideas simple and relatable.
From this work, Mobilize was born – a team shaped by crisis but built for long-term change. With deep experience in high-impact campaigns, we use collaborative approaches, local languages, creative content, and community workshops to make sure messages truly connect.
The focus in Mobilize’s four years of existence has been on issues such as public health (in particular, COVID-19), corruption, the energy crisis, and climate justice. Future plans include conducting public campaigns around issues such as gender and societal violence and, contributing to social cohesion through campaigns on issues such as anti-racism.
“Mobilize: The Documentary” is a 76 Media production, in association with Mobilize Foundation.
Our Structure
Mobilize Foundation is a registered non-profit organisation (252-757 NPO).
In addition to this, ‘Mobilize the Agency for Change’ is a separately registered social enterprise collectively owned by the Mobilize Foundation, founding directors, and workers. This entity enables us to better create financial sustainability for the NPO; particularly through offering quality services to good causes, and the use of the Mobilize application.
Mobilize is almost entirely reliant on donor funding; but where we can generate revenue, we plough this back into the organisation itself. We do not make any profit. In generating revenue, Mobilize only works on campaigns that align with its vision, and any money it makes goes back into our campaigns in a way that does not exploit or take advantage of those it works with, or those who work for it.
Our People
Our team is a small yet skilled group of content creators, social media managers, app developers, and researchers. We also work with a wide number of independent facilitators nationally, to assess community sentiment, provide popular education, and distribute material.
Our Funders & Partners
We work with a wide variety of organisations. Core to our ethos is a collaborative way of working. We believe our work is not simply enriched by our partnerships, but made fundamentally possible.
Additionally, while we aim to sustain parts of our work through services, our generous funders have enabled us to deliver our impactful communications campaigns.
Whether partner, funder, or client, we believe in the importance of aligned progressive values for a different world and strive to place collaboration with those pushing for it at the center of what we do.
